The Hedgehog Who Was Afraid of Hugs

Harry the hedgehog had a big heart—but also sharp spines. Because of his spikes, he never joined group games or cuddles. “I don’t want to hurt anyone,” he whispered sadly.

Other animals tried to include him, but Harry always stayed back. He built a tiny house with walls, so no one could get too close. Still, he felt lonely.

One chilly night, a baby rabbit got lost. Harry was the first to hear her cries. He followed the sound and found her shivering under a bush. “Come with me,” he said.

The rabbit looked scared. “You’re… prickly.” Harry nodded. “I’ll be careful.” He led her home slowly, using leaves and moss to make a soft path. When they arrived, the rabbit hugged him gently—just around his belly where it didn’t hurt.

Harry was surprised. It felt warm and safe.

The next day, animals asked Harry to join their games again. This time, he said yes. They found ways to play that didn’t hurt—and gave him gentle hugs when he needed them.

Lesson: Everyone needs love and connection. With care and understanding, we can include and support one another.
